Liver and Kidney Damage Induced by Peppermint Oil on Mice Model

Objective: To investigate the injury effect of peppermint extract on mice liver and kidney using pathological method.
Methods: Kunming mice subjected peppermint oil by intragastrical way were randomized in to different peppermint oil doses groups.
Pathological alternations were observed and the amounts of lethal and toxicity of plant extracts were examined. Results: With acute
experiments, we found that large doses of peppermint oil could induce mouse liver and kidney damage, and with the dose increased,
pathological changes were severe.Tissue slices showed edema and fatty degeneration on liver cells, and edema on the kidney
epithelial cells. Conclusion: Large doses of peppermint oil were damage to both mouse liver and kidney, but in different extents.
