On the Feature and Origin of the Negation Marks in Bai Dialects

Although the expressing of negative meanings in the dialects of Bai language shows some differences, they all have the same three-dimensional negative system, which is different from the other Tibeto-Burman languages but similar to ancient Chinese. One negation marker of the Bai is the common ingredient originated from the primitive Tibeto-Burman, and others are borrowed from Chinese. The negative system and negation markers can be treated as a typical case in the research of relative language comparison, typological test and the study of language contact.
