Survey and Analysis on the Sanitary Conditions about Children's Food in Dali Country

Abstract:

Objective: To learn about children's food safety in Dali rural area so as to provide the reference for preventive measures of improving it in rural areas. Methods: The stratified sampling was combined with random sampling to survey children's food with questionnaire in six counties (five towns in each). The total of questionnaire was 2 200, and recovered all; the recovery rate was 100%; effective questionnaire was 2 179; the effective rate was 99%. Results: There were 33 rural canteens within hygiene license from 52 canteens in 26 countries(64%)(χ2=1067.642, P=0.000<0.01). The education level of food operators was generally low. Only 19.5 percent of them were with high school and college educational background; 46.4% with junior high school educational background; illiterate persons was 9.2%(χ2=294.332, P=0.000<0.01).There were serious problems of children's food packaging from the 2 179 sample survey of rural primary schools, such as lack of the date of manufacture and inspection certificate, stained or damaged packaging. There was significant difference between different counties (P<0.01). Conclusion: There are serious problems existing in children's food safety in Dali rural areas. So the relevant departments should strengthen supervision and control; parents and school should strengthen the education about food safety for the pupils.
