Epidemic Investigation of Schistosomiasis in Zhefang Town of Mangshi

Abstract:

Objective: To know whether there is epidemic schistosomiasis in Mangshi, a non-epidemic area. Methods: 1 331
farmers in Zhefang Town of Mangshi were tested for schistosomal antibodies, and ultrasonography and rectal mucosa biopsy were performed in cases with positive results, as well as investigation of the history of epidemiology. Results: Schistosomiasis antibodies were found positive in 66 cases, with the rate of 4.96%. Actually, ultrasonography and rectal mucosa biopsy were performed in 60 cases and 16 cases were diagnosed with schistosomal hepatic injury by ultrasonography and 10 cases were diagnosed with schistosomiasis by rectal mucosa biopsy. Conclusion: None of the cases have been to epidemic areas of schistosomiasis, which shows that schistosomiasis is epidemic in Zhefang Town of Mangshi.
