Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate the antioxidant activity of 29 herbal medicines from West Yunnan. Methods: The 29 medicinal plants were extracted with 75% ethanol and water successively. DPPH assay were used to measure the antioxidant activity in vitro, and the results were expressed as IC50 values. Results: Nine plants, including Laggera pterodonta, Gaultheria leucocarpa, Geranium refractum, Anaphalis bulleyana, Tripterygium hypoglaucum, Campylotropis hirtella, Osbeckia opipara, Tithonia diversifolia, and Scutellaria amoena, had strong antioxidant activity. Among them, the ethanol extract of the underground part of G. refractum showed significant activity with an IC50 value(4.1±0.1)μg/mL which was better than the IC50 value of positive control-vitamin C. Conclusion: Nine plants had antioxidant activity and revealed the potential for further study and development with medicinal purpose.
