Abstract:

Objective: To analyze the influence of processing methods on chemical constituents in Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim.
Methods: The chemical differences of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim before and after processing were analyzed by Fourier Transform
Infrared Spectrum(FTIR)and the main chemical composition was identified. Results: Infrared spectra of Trichosanthes kirilowii
Maxim and its processed products were similar. The IR characteristic absorption peaks of certain constituent are found: 1 240 cm- 1
(δOH), 3 300-3 420 cm- 1(νOH of flavonoids and polysaccharide, glycosides, or alcohol O-H), 2 853-2 930 cm- 1(νCH of methyl or
methylene C-O)and 1 510-1 660 cm-1(δNH of protein N-H or νC-C of aromatic compounds benzene ring)and 1 050 cm-1(flavonoids
or νC- O of polysaccharide and glycosides). The second derivative spectra of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim and its processed products
revealed more fingerprint peaks, which helps to separate Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim and its processed products. Conclusion: The
chemical composition of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim had little changes after the processing procedure, and the second derivative
spectra offered better identification of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim and its processed products.
