Abstract:

Objective:To analyze the relationship between the influential factors and the occurrence of colostomy complications.
Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed of the medical records of 225 patients who had undergone colostomy in the Affiliated
Hospital of Dali University from 2013 to 2015 to examine the relationship between the incidence of colostomy complications and such
factors as age, gender, nutritional status, albumin and types of stoma. Results:Fifty- one patients of the total number had
complications with an incidence rate of 22.7%: colostomy complications correlated positively with age; gender had no significant effect
on incidence of complications. The incidence rate of complications in the patients with normal nutrition was lower than in the patients
with consumption of thin or obese; the lower albumin was, the higher the possibility of occurrence of stoma complications was; the
complication rate in loop colostomy was higher than that in end stoma. Conclusion:Colostomy complications are closely associated
with age, nutritional status, albumin and types of stoma. Good perioperative preparations need to be done based on specific individual
patient situation, which can help reduce the possibilities of stoma complication.
