Abstract: Hydrophoicsilicagelisashockenergyabsorptionbuffermediumconsistingofwaterandhydrophobicsilicaparticles covered with micro-pores. It is sealed in a compressible hydraulic cylinder to form a colloidal damping buffer. During impact processes,ittakesadvantagesofwatergettinginandextrudingthehydrophobicporesofsilicaparticlestorealizeenergystorage, conversionanddissipation.BasedonLaplace-Washburnequationandthecontactanglehysteresismodel,theprocessofwatergetting inandextrudinghydrophobicmicro-poreswasstudied.Quasi-statictestswereusedtoverifythismechanicalmodel,andaccordingto experimentalresults,theenergydissipationperformanceisanalyzed.Theresultshowsthatthehydrophobicsilicagelexhibitsalarge hysteresisloopduringtheworkingprocessanditcanbeusedasanidealenergyabsorbingmaterial.
