Abstract: 〔Abstract〕Objective: To examine the application of artificial hip replacement in the treatment of the elderly patients with femoral
intertrochanteric fractures, and to evaluate its clinical effect. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 46 cases of senior patients with
femoral intertrochanteric fractures who underwent the artificial joint replacement surgery. Among them, there were 12 males and 34
females, aged 79-93, with an average age of 85.2 years. All the patients were treated with hemi-arthroplasty. Results: 46 patients were
followed up for 3 to 12 months. Preoperative Harris score of hip joint function was(32.3 ± 4.5); Harris score within 3 months after the
operation was(89.1 ± 2.2); 6 months after the operation, 44 patients were excellent, 1 patient was good and 1 patient was fair in
function evaluation; the excellent and good rate was 97.83%(45/46); there were no complications such as bedsore and venous
thrombosis in all patients. Conclusion: Artificial hip replacement is a safe and effective method for the treatment of unstable
intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. After operation, patients can get out of bed early and bear weights. Within a short time,
patients can quickly recover and improve the function of hip joint, and avoid the serious complications of being forced to stay in bed
due to fractures. So, they can return back to the normal life before injury earlier and their quality of life can be improved.
