Abstract: The invasion of Pianma deliberately launched by the British-Burmese colonial government became an influential event at the end of the Xuantong period of Qing Dynasty. In order to solve the problem, parties in the Qing Dynasty proposed various solutions which reflected the domestic situation at the time, including the divergences between the court and the ministers, the contradictions between the officials and the gentry, and the conflicts between the Qing government and the Revolutionary Party. The Pianma incident clearly demonstrated the influence of the border issues on the political situation of Yunnan, and embodied the dilemma of modern China's border governance under the "new" and "old" concepts and system conflicts.
