Abstract: To explore the relationship between academic grit and subjective well-being, two cross-sectional studies on Chinese college students were performed. In Study 1 (n = 661), it was found that the academic grit was positively related to life satisfaction and positive affect, but negatively related to negative affect. In addition, the predictive power of academic grit on life satisfaction and positive affect remained significant even after controlling for the general grit and self-control. In Study 2 (n = 1 814), the association between academic grit and subjective well-being was replicated. Furthermore, mediation analyses demonstrated that the association was partly mediated by mindfulness and academic achievement. Taken together, the study suggests that academic grit may help boost college students subjective well-being via their mindfulness in learning and academic success.
