Abstract: Objective:To determine the in vitro lipid-lowering activity of 33 Compositae plants from West Yunnan, and to provide
a scientific basis for the discovery of novel hypolipidemic drugs from plants. Methods:33 Compositae plants were extracted by reflux
method with 75% ethanol. A high-lipid model of HepG2 cells was used to determine the lipid-lowering activities of plant extracts in
vitro. And the lipid-lowering rate was used to evaluate the activity. Results:24 Compositae plant extracts exhibited in vitro lipidlowering
activity in different degrees. The Conyza blinii,Ageratina adenophora,Bidens tripartita,Tithonia diversifolia showed
significant in vitro lipid-lowering activities with lipid-lowering rates of(18.4±1.9)%,(18.4±9.7)%,(17.5±10.2)% and(15.1±
13.4)%,respectively,at the final concentration of 0.5 mg/mL. There were significant differences in lipid-lowering rate between the
extracts of these 4 compositae plants and simvastatin in vitro(P<0.01). Conclusion:The four plants of C. blinii,A. adenophora,B.
tripartita, and T. diversifolia have significant in vitro lipid-lowering activities, which are worth further study.
