Emergency Blood Donation Service Management of Blood Collection and Supply Institutions during the Outbreak of COVID-19

Abstract:

Objective To explore the management strategy of emergency blood donation service for public health emergencies to ensure the demand for clinical blood use. Methods The number of whole blood collections and blood collections of Yunnan Kunming Blood Center in the first half of 2020 and the same period of 2019 were compared and issues such as emergency blood donation services infection prevention and control during the COVID-19 outbreak were retrospectively analyzed. Results In the first half of 2020 compared with the same period in 2019 the number of group blood donations decreased and the number of voluntary blood donations increased. Among them the number and volume of blood collection in February and March 2020 increased compared with the same period in 2019 and the other months decreased compared with the same period in 2019. In the first half of 2020 the number of blood samples and the volume of blood samples were generally lower than those in 2019 but the difference was not statistically significantP>0.05. Conclusion Emergency blood donation service management measures provide an important guaran-tee for the development of blood collection work in public health emergencies and have strong practicability.
