Analysis of the Timeliness and Influencing Factors of Left-Behind Children's Medical Treatment in Nanchong Area

Abstract:

Abstract Objective To explore the timeliness and influencing factors of left-behind children's medical treatment in Nanchong area. MethodsFrom October 2020 to April 2021 497 left-behind children and their guardians were selected in Nanchong City for investigation. The effects of various factors on the medical timeliness of left-behind children were evaluated by multivariate analysis. ResultsA total of 497 questionnaires were issued in this survey of which 490 valid questionnaires were retrieved with an effective rate of 98.59%. A total of 19 people did not see a doctor within 2 weeks of illness and the non-seeing rate was 3.88%. The results of multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the left-behind girls OR=1.465 95% CI1.069~2.009), the increase in the age of the main caregiversOR=1.449 95% CI1.032~2.034), and the distance from the nearest medical institution to home 3 kmOR=1.40495% CI1.099~1.793 were risk factors for the left-behind children in Nanchong area who did not seek medical treatment for illness within 2 weeks. The only child OR=0.68795% CI0.497~0.950), the increase in family monthly income OR=0.662 95% CI0.460~0.951), and participation in the new rural cooperative medical systemOR=0.707 95% CI0.562~0.889 were protective factors. Conclusion In Nanchong area the rate of the left-behind children who fell ill within 2 weeks without seeing a doctor was 3.88% which is mainly affected by the gender of left-behind children the age of main caregivers and the distance from the nearest medical institution to home. Relevant departments can intervene against the above factors to improve the medical immediacy of left-behind children in Nanchong Area.
