Abstract:

Objective: To investigate the prophylactic use of proton pump inhibitors(PPIs)for stress ulcer(SU)in our hospital and to
evaluate its rationality. Methods: 158 medical records of patients from Departments of Neurosurgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery, General
Surgery, Orthopedics and Urology Surgery with using PPIs in January 2015 were sampled for evaluation of indications in prophylactic
medication, usage and dosage, solvents and course of treatment of PPIs. Results: The reasonable utilization rate of PPIs for prevention SU
was 82.91%, while 27 cases were unreasonable and the unreasonable rate was 17.09 %. The medication indications, choice of solvent,
dosage and course were unreasonable, and no evidence application accounted for 41.18 % of unreasonable drug use. Conclusion: The
application of PPIs in the prevention of SU is basically reasonable, but irrational use of PPIs exists, which needs to be improved.

Key words: proton pump inhibitors, stress ulcer, rational drug use
