Abstract:

Objective: To investigate efficacy and safety of caffeine citrate for treating primary apnea in premature infants. Methods:
A retrospective analysis was conducted among clinical data of 92 cases of apnea in premature infants of 27-32 weeks in NICU during
November 2014 to October 2015. They were divided into two groups: observation group of caffeine citrate treatment(n=52)and the
control group of aminophylline treatment(n=40). A comparison of the effectiveness of two apnea treatment and adverse reactions
incidence rate of tachycardia, hyperglycemia, irritability, bloating and gastric retention were done. Results: The clinical total effective
rate of the observation group was 90.4%, which was 70.0% higher than the control group. The difference was statistically significant
(P<0.05). The rate of tachycardia, hyperglycemia, irritability, bloating, gastric retention during treatment of the observation group was
lower than the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: Caffeine citrate has significant effect on treating premature infants of primary
apnea, reducing the incidence of apnea, causing fewer adverse events and improving prognosis.
