Abstract: Objective: To compare the chemical quality among three species of Gentiana. Methods: HPLC fingerprints of the three kinds of Gentiana have been established and analyzed with chemometric methods including similarity evaluation, hierarchical cluster analysis and principal component analysis. Results: There is significant difference among the three species of Gentiana expressed by the fingerprint patterns. The result of chemometric analysis indicated that 17 samples were classified into three categories. Conclusion: HPLC fingerprint combined with chemometrics analysis is an effective method for the discrimination of different groups of herbal medicines.
