Abstract: Knowing by whom knowledge is used and for whom it is serving is still an issue that needs to be clarified when cultivating
medical talents in contemporary China. The educational view of training "politically-sound and professionally-competent" talents
needs to be strongly advocated in the medical field which is now "putting emphasis on professionalism and neglecting humanities" and
having a trend of "de-ideologization". As a reserve force for the development of China's medical career and the guardian of the great
rejuvenation of the nation, Chinese medical students not only need to have the benevolence as doctors, but also to take the
responsibility of "strengthening the country", and contribute to "building a community with a shared future for mankind". Ideological
and political teachers should combine General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech at the National Conference on Ideological and Political
Work to clarify why medical students should be both politically-sound and professionally-competent. Teachers of various disciplines
should be aware of "ideology and politics", so that the ideological and political courses will "go in the same direction" with professional
courses, and medical talents could be cultivated based on the concept of "all-round education".

Key words: ideological and political education, curriculum ideology and politics, politically-sound and professionally-competent;

medical students
