Abstract: 〔Abstract〕Objective: To evaluate the self-care abilities of patients with chronic heart failure(CHF)and their primary caregivers,
and analyze their respective influencing factors. Methods: A total of 61 inpatients with CHF and their primary caregivers in a hospital
were investigated by interviews and questionnaires. Results: The average score of Self-Care of Heart Failure Index for CHF patients
and their primary caregivers were(43.5±10.7)and(42.9±10.2), respectively, and there was a significant positive correlation between
their scores. The patient′s levels of heart failure knowledge, admission times, education background and nationality were the primary
factors influencing his self-care ability. The primary caregiver′s level of heart failure knowledge, daily care time and self-awareness of
health condition, and the patient′s admission times were the major factors influencing his contribution to the patient′ self-care ability.
Conclusion: The self-care abilities of CHF patients and their primary caregivers′ contribution to patients′ self-care ability are
generally low, and the influencing factors are related to demographic and clinical characteristics.
