Abstract: 〔Abstract〕Objective: To investigate the status quo of the completion competence of nursing students in higher vocational colleges,
offer some strategies to improve their completion competence by identifying the areas that need to be further developed, and provide a
basis and reference for enhancing nursing students′ completion competence in higher vocational colleges. Methods: The Chinese
version of the Nursing Students Competence Instrument was used to survey and identity the competence of 653 nursing students in a
vocational college. Results: The total score of the completion competence of nursing students in the college was 143.18±49.33, the
average score of the items in the dimension of integrated nursing competency was the lowest, and the average score of the items in the
dimension of dealing with pressure was the highest. Juniors of the 3-year degree had higher competence than sophomores, and
sophomores had higher competence than freshmen, with the statistically significant difference(P<0.001). The competence of the fifth-
year nursing students of 5-year junior college education was higher than that of the fourth-year students, with the statistically
significant difference(P<0.001). Conclusion: The competence of nursing students in higher vocational colleges needs to be further
developed. Active study and training can positively promote their competence. Higher vocational colleges and teaching hospitals may
help nursing students develop their competence by taking such measure as reforming the teaching mode, creating a good learning
environment, establishing social support system and strengthen students′ psychological health.
