Abstract: Objective: To investigate whether the extract of Periplaneta americana has an effect on the intestinal flora of patients
with mental illness. Methods: Fecal samples collected from 19 patients with mental illness during the onset and control periods were
co-cultured with microorganisms, and the number of colonies was analyzed statistically. Results: The number of colonies in each of
the three samples (blank group, experimental group, and positive group) of the three types of microorganisms (aerobic bacteria,
anaerobic bacteria, fungi) was compared in pairs. The differences in the number of colonies between the blank group and the
experimental group, the blank group and the positive group ( aerobic bacteria group except female and schizophrenic characteristics )
were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: The extract of Periplaneta americana can regulate the intestinal flora of patients
with mental illness.
