Abstract:

Objective To explore the correlation between obesity and oxidative stress among college students and to provide research programs and techniques for the development of diagnostic criteria for oxidative inflammation. Methods 80 students from Dali University were randomly selected as the subjects of study and urine samples were taken during physical examination the urine 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine 8-OHdG content was determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay ELISA. And the body mass index BMI is calculated based on the height and body mass data SPSS 17.0 software were used to perform linear correlation analysis and one-way analysis of variance. Results BMI value was positively correlated with urine 8-OHdG content among which rboys=0.332 rgirls=0.338 and rtotal=0.341 obese and overweight people had higher urine 8-OHdG levels than those of normal body mass. Conclusion Obesity and oxidative stress/oxidative inflammation in college students are downstream events of excess energy intake. There is a statistical correlation between the two but not causal relationship. There is a quantitative "mirror relationship" between them which provides the possibility to use the diagnostic criteria of obesity to explore the diagnostic criteria of oxidative inflammation.
