Health Literacy Status and Influencing Factors of lderly People of the Bai Ethnic Group with Chronic Diseases in Yunnan Province

Abstract: Objective To investigate the health literacy status of elderly people with chronic diseases of the Bai ethnic group in Yunnan Province and to analyze the influencing factors. Methods 324 elderly patients of the Bai ethnic group with chronic diseases who were hospitalized in three general hospitals in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture from July to November in 2020 were investigated by a questionnaire. t test or one-way analysis of variance were used to compare the differences of patients on demographic characteristics and multiple linear regression model was used to analyze the independent influencing factors of health literacy. Results The average score of health literacy of the elderly people of the Bai ethnic group with chronic diseases in Yunnan  Province was 79.67±14.32 and 27.78% of the participants showed the qualified health literacy. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that age living region family monthly income residence condition educational level and number of chronic diseases were independent influencing factors of the health literacyP<0.05. Conclusion The health literacy level of the elderly people with chronic diseases of the Bai ethnic group in Yunnan Province is relatively low especially in rural areas. It is suggested that intervention measures should be formulated based on the influencing factors and the culture of the Bai ethnic group so as to effectively improve their health condition.
