Abstract:

The Sound and the Fury written by William Faulkner turns to explore characters' time consciousness, instead of traditionally arranging the plots by the time sequence. In this novel, Faulkner arranges four different narrators, the three Compson children, Benjy,Quentin,Jason and a "Negron" servant Dilsey. They tell a same story from different angle, which indicates their dynamic time consciousness. There is only present in Benjy's eyes; Quentin is always reliving the past; Jason only cares the present and the near future.
