Abstract:

Marx's thought of urbanization does not only have a profound theoretical basis, which is an essential part of historical
materialism, but also has a clear practical appeal, that is, the essence of urbanization and historical role is to realize the modern
transformation of human society. Reflecting China's urbanization practice from Marx's view of urbanization will not only help us to find
the rationality and superiority of rural urbanization in the past, but also help us to overcome the disadvantage of current "big city"
strategy which focuses on urban areas only but overlooks rural areas. Only in this way, can we bring the modern transformation of rural
production and lifestyle into the practice and value of pursuing urbanization, and to realize the mutual development of urban and rural
areas.

Key words: urban-rural division of labor, rural urbanization, social transformation
