A Comparative Study on Mao Zedong’s and Deng Xiaoping’s Thoughts About the Relation Between Chinese and Foreign Cultures

Abstract:

The thoughts about the relationship between Chinese and foreign culture are important parts of Mao Zedong’s and Deng Xiaoping’s cultural thoughts. They played key roles in the socialist revolution and construction last century. At present, they remain an appropriate strategy for the relation between Chinese and foreign cultures, and are conducive to holding on China’s national characteristics and advantages in a dynamic and fast-paced modern world. This paper analyzes the development and correction of Mao’s and Deng’s thoughts, studying the main content, the similarities, the differences and the reasons for the differences of their thoughts. We hope to help people to better understand Mao’s and Deng’s thoughts, providing a reference to government to deal with the relation between Chinese and foreign cultures and to construct socialist culture with Chinese characteristics and harmony.
