Abstract: Based on the research of regionalization of traditional dwellings in Sichuan and Chongqing, we find out that traditional residential buildings in Sichuan and Chongqing fall into 3 major categories:column and tie timber construction,post and lintel construction and hybrid construction with level purlins. The three types of constructions are correspondingly regionalized, and are located in 9 sub-regions and 10 minor regions with some "islands" of other residential constructions. The geographical regionalization of traditional dwellings in Sichuan and Chongqing that reflects the differences in topography and climatic conditions, and the influence of social environment on residential buildings, is the result of natural environment, geography, population, economic activity and social culture. Among them, regional natural environment plays the major role, and social environment exerts a relatively minor influence on traditional residential buildings.
