Dignity Therapy in Social Work : Practice Model and Procedural Guidelines

Abstract: Dignity therapy, characteristic of sensitivity and respect to patients, and timely and sustained impact, is being more widely used in clinical medicine and sociology. Social work solves new problems faced by clients based on four important models: physical dignity, human dignity, relational dignity and political dignity; and through six key steps: dignity introduction, dignity assessment, dignity planning, empowerment, document creation and dignity transmission, it guides clients to maintain their physical and mental health through pursuing dignity in life and promotes the professional development of dignity therapy. Based on historical experience and practical reflection, social workers must be fully sensitive to the limitations of the application of dignity therapy and precisely locate the scope of application of dignity therapy in the process of implementing dignity therapy, clarify the role of social workers in dignity therapy in depth, and the establish local characteristics of dignity therapy.
