Abstract:

By combining the writer’s mentality with the social environment of the production of the fiction, this paper interprets the imagery of “Twilight”in Remote Town in the following three aspects: diction, imagery, and theme. By summing up the occurrence of and analyzing the imagery of “Twilight”in the story, the author concludes that Remote Town shows the tragic gap between the worldly beings and the Gods (God Nuo in particular),which represents the impact of Han culture on the Miao nationality. Therefore,Remote Town expresses Shen Congwen’s concern and worry about the cultural conflict between Miao and Han nationality, which is also his modern reflection.
