Abstract: Abstract:The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary (fifth edition) includes 72 “bu+X” disyllabic verbs but the author thinks that the 72 disyllabic verbs do not conform to the judgment criterion of Chinese disyllabic verbs, and in this paper he describes the wordformation process of disyllabic verbs. The study shows that only “bu hui” and “bu xing” can be included as disyllabic verbs, while the other 70 “bu X” verbs should not be included. The viewpoint that “if ‘X’ has no antonym ‘Y’, then ‘bu X’ is the antonym of ‘X’” put forward by Mr. Lv Shuxiang violates the logic principle of adequate conditional hypothesis reasoning, which cannot prove the “bu X” disyllabic composition forms a word.

Key words: “bu+X”, verb, lexicalization, antonym, hypothesis reasoning
