METAPHORICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ENGLISH VOCABULARY OF PETROLEUM TECHNOLOGY

Abstract

Abstract:

A case study is made about English vocabulary of petroleum technology to answer the question whether metaphorical vocabulary should be used in scientific language.The study on 20 articles selected from a self-build corpus shows that English vocabulary of petroleum English bears distinct metaphorical characteristics.The author also studies the cognitive functions of metaphorical vocabulary in Petroleum English which are analogical reasoning，theory constructing，and stating.
