Abstract: Wang Guowei built his own aesthetic system with his concepts of imagery and scopes. In his opinion, the works of lyric literature ought to convey the true feelings of the lyricists, which is the main components of his concept of scopes. Valuing true feelings very much, he endeavored to Yuan drama studies. In terms of the art of drama, he didn't think highly of the Yuan drama while he really appreciated the Yuan Qu for its lyrics, eulogizing Qu as "the living literature".Yuan Qu deserves such praise because of the true feelings in it. Wang Guowei studied the Qu from the perspective of the ways for creating lyrics, believing that the true feelings were the primary criterion. Unlike other critics, adeptness is also what Wang Guowei valued about Yuan Qu, which made his view on the realistic feature of Yuan Qu broader than his concepts of imagery and scopes. Wu Mei, on the other hand, also valued the true feelings but his comments on the works focus more on the perspective of fancy rhetoric, paying respect to the realistic nature of Yuan Qu with reservations.
