Abstract: The rheology and association behavior of Hydrophobically modified poly (acrylic acid) (HMPA) solution under the condition of the existence of nonionic surfactant(TX-10) are investigated. The results show that the rheological behavior is related to the cluster overlapping concentration and the established network concentration C**.With the concentration increasing, the liquidlike behavior of HMPA solution transits to that of gellike. It is shown that HMPA interacts with the surfactant TX-10 in the solution.Surfactant induces the factors that change the number and strength of hydrophobic functions thus the associative network strength, and plays a major role in changing the solution rheology.
