Abstract:

Objective: To analyze the common causes of fecal occult blood based on the results of fecal occult blood test in a second class A hospital in Kunming City. Methods: The results of fecal occult blood test using monoclonal antibody method were retrospectively analyzed in 2 000 samples from a second class A hospital in Kunming City from January to February 2021. Results: Among the 2 000 samples, the positive rate of fecal occult blood test was 24.30%, and the positive rate of fecal occult blood test in patients under 50 years old was the highest(43.51%). The positive rate of fecal occult blood test in patients older than 50 years increased with age (the positive rate of patients aged 80 to 89 decreased slightly). Conclusion: Digestive hemorrhagic disease, gastrointestinal malignancy and the use of some drugs can lead to positive results in fecal occult blood test. The clinician needs to identify the cause when analyzing positive results of fecal occult blood in patients. For those who are highly suspected of digestive tract bleeding, if the results of fecal occult blood test by monoclonal antibody method are negative, the fecal sample should be further diluted and retested to avoid false negative results and delay disease diagnosis and treatment.
