Dreaming about His Dream around the West Lake is usually regarded as one of Zhang Dai s essay master pieces，but
there are not a few words written by someone else but not Zhang Dai himself．For example，lots of words in the book were directly quoted from Suplementary Record of visting the West Lake．Based on such a reason，though Dream ing about His Dream around the West Lak e was an important essay in Zhang Dai S late years．what is worth studying is the cultural thinking as a dynasty adherent of Ming at the time of replacement of Ming and Qing．The book presents at least three cuhural values：it retains the natural and cultural scene of the West Lake in late Ming and early Qing；it embodies the elites culture in the South of the Chanjiang River；it is an evidence of Zhang Dai's insistence in Confucian cultural beliefs.
