Abstract:

Objective: To study the bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects in vitro of aqueous extract of Paederia yunnanensis. Methods: Solution dilution method is used to measure the bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects of roots, stems and leaves of Paederia yunnanensis against Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella dysenteriae, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Results: All of three parts have bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects on the four experimental bacteria, but there are also significant differences. The root of Paederia yunnanensis has the strongest bacteriostatic and bactericidal action against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and it is also the part with the best bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect for four experimental bacteria as a whole. The leaves of Paederia yunnanensis have the strongest bacteriostatic action against Shigella dysenteriae, and the stongest bactericidal action against Staphylococcus aureus. Conclusion: The roots, stems, and leaves of Paederia yunnanensis have bacteriostatic and bactericidal actions against four experimental baceria, but also there are differences among their effects, and to provide the basis for the next step of antibacterial medicine standardization.
