Abstract:

Objective: To investigate the experience and effect of endoscopic third ventriculostomy in the treatment of obstructive
hydrocephalus. Methods: Retrospective analysis was introduced to 16 cases of obstructive hydrocephalus received endoscopic third
ventriculostomy in our hospital from January 2014 to February 2015. Results: All 16 cases of obstructive hydrocephalus accepted
endoscopic third ventriculostomy with 15 cases completed the surgery and one case shifted to ventriculo-peritoneal shunt. A 4-12-
month follow-up showed symptomatic improvement in 12 cases(75%), no change in two cases, relapse in one cases and relief by
ventriculo-peritoneal shunt in one case; CT and MRI head revealed that ventricle reduced in seven cases(43.7%), no obvious change
in seven cases, slightly expansion in two cases. Conclusion: Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is a minimal invasive approach with
obvious efficacy and less complications to obstructive hydrocephalus.
