A Comparative Study of the Clinical
Efficacy of Endoscopic Thyroidectomy via the Thoracic-Breast Approach and Open
Thyroidectomy

Abstract

Abstract: Objective： To compare the clinical efficacy of endoscopic thyroidectomy via the thoracic-breast approach and open thyroidectomy in the treatment of benign and malignant thyroid diseases. Methods：From April 2011 to November 2021， the clinical data of patients who underwent endoscopic thyroidectomy and open thyroidectomy in Department of the Second General Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Dali University were retrospectively analyzed. According to the operation mode， the patients were divided into endoscopic group and open group. The operation time， intraoperative bleeding， hospital stay， postoperative complication rate， postoperative pain 24 hours and incision satisfaction 1 month after operation were compared between the two groups. Results： There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of operation time， hospital stay and postoperative complication rate（P >0.05）. Compared with the open group， the patients in the endoscopic group had significantly reduced intraoperative bleeding， significantly reduced postoperative pain， and significantly improved their satisfaction with the incision， with a statistically significant difference（P<0.05）. Conclusion： Compared with the traditional open surgery， endoscopic thyroidectomy via the thoracic-breast approach has the advantages of less bleeding， less postoperative pain， and good cosmetic effect， which is worth promoting in the surgical treatment of thyroid nodules.
