Abstract: This paper recounts the history of the compilation of Contemporary Chinese Dictionary (CCD), and studies the problems in blueprint of CCD from several angles. It is believed that CCD is fully absorbing the fine tradition of Chinese dictionaries in the past dynasties and drawing lessons from foreign dictionaries. Then the paper points out that the blueprint of CCD is Mandarin Chinese Dictionary while paraphrasing model is more based on Oxford Advanced Learner’s English Dictionary (ALD).
