Abstract:

The 14th Five-Year Plan marks the first stage in China's journey toward building a modern socialist country after achieving a moderately prosperous society. As a representative of China's outstanding traditional culture, the inheritance and development of traditional sports play a significant role in enhancing national soft power. Using literature review and logical analysis, this study explores reforms in traditional sports during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, traditional sports have made notable progress: a development model emphasizing both government-led and multi-actor participation has shown initial results; collaborative growth between national minority sports games and single-discipline events has been achieved; and independent development combined with integration into multiple industries has yielded encouraging outcomes. However, problems such as unclear subject responsibility, overemphasis on competitive orientation, shallow research approaches, narrow perspectives, and rigid inheritance methods remain. In response, this study proposes a people-centered development orientation, a content path combining tradition and innovation, integration with digital technologies to foster new models of development, and the optimization of the development environment through stronger resource support for high-quality growth.
