Survey and Analysis of Food Safety Status of Rural Residents in a Yi Autonomous County in
South Sichuan

Abstract:

Objective: To investigate the status of knowledge, attitude and practice(KAP) about food safety among the rural
residents in a Yi autonomous county in south Sichuan, and to provide a theoretical basis for further health education and behavior
intervention among the rural residents. Methods: The respondents were randomly selected from four villages in Ebian County.
Questionnaires were used to collect data on food safety knowledge, attitude and practice. Results: Most local Han and Yi people were
lack of food safety knowledge. The awareness rate of food safety knowledge was 25.5%-97.8%. A small number of the local people fully
believed in the integrity of the food business operators(Han nationality 12.4%, Yi nationality 19.3%). About half of the people would
choose to complain about the poor-quality the food(Han nationality 51.3%, Yi nationality 56.9%). About 53.1% of respondents use
separate tools in kitchen for raw food and cooked food(Han nationality 53.2%, Yi nationality 52.3%). Conclusion: The rural residents
of Ebian had many problems on food safety. So it is quite necessary for them to be instructed the knowledge of food safety to improve
the current food safety situation in local.
