Abstract:

Objective:To explore the relationship between endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS)rs1799983 polymorphism and
blood pressure. Methods:All employees including the retired of a factory in Dali were enrolled in the study. A standardized
questionnaire was distributed to collect information on alcohol consumption, smoking habits and use of medications. And then the
genotypes were categorized by SNaPshot method. Results:The frequencies of rs1799983 GG, GT and TT were 80.3%, 19.0% and
0.7% respectively. There was no significant difference in genotypes and alleles between participants with normal blood pressure and
hypertensive patients(P≥0.21). However, T allele carriers(GT + TT)compared with GG homozygotes had a significantly higher
systolic and pulse pressure both before and after adjusted for covariates(P≤0.04). It was found that significant interaction between
rs1799983 polymorphism and low- density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL- C)had an effect on pulse pressure(Pint = 0.04). Pulse
pressure of T allele carrier was significantly higher than GG homozygotes as LDL- C levels increased. Conclusion:The eNOS
rs1799983 polymorphism may be associated with blood pressure and affected by LDL-C levels.
