On Four-Syllable Words in the Bai Language

Abstract:

Four-syllable words are a common word form in Sino-Tibetan languages. Being one of the Tibetan-Burmese languages in the Sino-Tibetan language family the Bai language has abundant four-syllable words too. The characteristics of the four-syllabic words in the Bai language are as follows the structure has the beauty of symmetry the language meaning has the beauty of reflection and the semantics has the beauty of perception. In addition like other languages of the Sino-Tibetan language family the Bai language also has the feature of redundancy which plays a key role in the formation of the four-syllable words.
