Compararison of Nuss Procedure and Modified Ravitch Procedure for Pectus Excavatum Repair

Abstract:

Objective: To compare the results of Nuss procedure and modified Ravitch procedure in the management of pediatric
pectus excavatum. Methods: The clinical data of 26 cases who received pectus excavatum repairs were analyzed retrospectively and
they were divided into Nuss group in 10 and modified Ravitch group in 16 according to the procedure performed on them. The lasting
time and amount of bleeding in operation, average hospital days and complications were compared between two groups statistically.
Results: Operation was performed on all patients successfully and satisfied thoracic appearance obtained. The average age is no
difference compared between two groups. The operative time was shorter and less bleeding in Nuss group than that in modified Ravitch
group(P <0.05)but no statistical significance hospital days and complications compared between two groups(P >0.05). Conclusion:
Satisfactory orthopedic effect can be obtained whether Nuss procedure or modified Ravitch procedure for pectue excavatum repair but
Nuss procedure with the advantages of shorter operative time, less trauma and less bleeding in operation.
