Abstract: Community is an important organizational form in human society, and it has been playing an essential role in human history. The process from construction to deconstruction of the academic concept of "community" reflects the evolution of human life from collective existence to individualization, which is also a complicated game between collectivity and individual. Community is a key clue to the understanding the narration of human existence which have been analyzed by many authors, and they have formed a theoretical framework. A review of this theoretical spectrum may reveal the evolution of community theory, and how people understand the community in certain times. The meaning of community to people has gone through a change which started from a home for survival in the pre-modern era to a personal choice in modern times. In this process, people gradually separate themselves from community on one hand, and continually attempt to come back to community on the other hand. The essence of this process is a human choice between seeking attribution and independence, which is presented as a human existence narration in an individual or a member of the community.
