Abstract: In recent years, China's natural gas market has seen an increase in both supply and demand and "gas shortage" phenomenon occurs from time to time. A province abundant in natural gas resources, Sichuan is characteristic of remarkable exploration and development results and rapid consumption growth, but on the other hand, its inadequate supply capacity and gas storage facilities construction cannot meet market demand.With reference to the domestic and international development status of natural gas industry, we made a comprehensive analysis of the impact of natural gas system reform and energy supply side reform on Sichuan natural gas industry, and major difficulties, challenges and opportunities in the development of natural gas reform and development in Sichuan Province. Based on the analysis, we conclude that to improve the natural gas production-supply-storage-sale system in Sichuan, a scientific planning is necessary to build the natural gas production capacity, multisource supply system, provincial level gas storage peaking adjustment system, and terminal market. We believe that such efforts will contribute to a coordination of the upstream, midstream and downstream of natural gas industry, and to the sustainable and high-quality development of the natural gas industry in Sichuan.
