Abstract: The three ethnic autonomous prefectures in Sichuan Province are located in the transition zone of China's first and second topography steps. Due to complex geological conditions and strong neotectonic movements, geological disasters such as mountain floods, mud flows, rock falls and landslides would occur with high frequency and intensity after extreme weather such as heavy precipitation, especially in deep valleys. The study has revealed some problems in the disaster and risk management system of the road network in the three ethnic prefectures, which include weak scientific research on geological disasters, lack of the technologies related to disaster emergency response and disaster prevention, high vulnerability of road network infrastructure and geological disaster intensity, and low disaster resistance and resilience of the road network system. In order to improve the resilience of road network system against weather-related disasters in the three ethnic autonomous prefectures of Sichuan Province, we need an improved and safer road network with stronger resilience by strengthening scientific studies on geological disasters, emergency response system and risk management standard.

Key words: the three ethnic autonomous prefectures of Sichuan Province, road network, resilience against climate disasters, climate change, capacity of disaster prevention and mitigation
