NEW APPROACHES TO THE REASONS FOR THE PREVALENCE OF GANYE IN THE HEYDAY OF TANG DYNASTY

Abstract: Ganye(seeking to interview with requests for favor) was prevalent in Tang Dynasty(especially during the reign of emperor Xuanzong),which was a kind of peculiar social phenomenon.In the flourishing age of Tang Dynasty,the reasons of the prevalence of Ganye were various.In the first place,the examples made by the older generation or the contemporary who succeeded by Ganye was the most direct reason for the popularity.Secondly,various systems of choosing scholars as officials in the flourishing age of Tang Dynasty,such as systems of imperial examinations,selecting after evaluating qualifications and serving as adviser,drove scholars to constantly seek interview with requests for favor their whole life from the moment they were chosen to be government officials.What′s more,scholars′ individual consciousness and their consciousness of pursuing fame were fully inspired by the imperial examinations.Their strong consciousness of pursuing fame was the internal cause of seeking to interview with requests for favor.
