Abstract:

Rebels are a special group of characters in modern literature works. On one hand, they were descended from the feudal families, and influenced by the traditional culture; on the other hand, exposed to the western culture, they were against feudalism and were pursuing individual liberation. Inspired by the era, they eventually got rid of their feudal families, entered the society, and became the rebels of old families and pioneers of a new era. Because of the different backgrounds, rebels at different times displayed universality and individuality. In this paper, the author made a study on the images of rebels from Regret for the Past, Family, and the Sons and Daughters of Landlord in 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, attempting to systematically analyze the reasons of the birth of these images and the differences among them, so as to reveal the cultural value and significance of such characters.
