Abstract: A surfactant PSO1 (a copolymer of acrylamide , acrylic acid and methyl methacrylate) with high molecular weight and high viscosity has been studied for EOR. Some characteristics of the product such as thickening , foam stability and oil displacement have been studied in the lab. Lots of scientific data show that the product can increase the viscosity of solution significantly and improve the stability of foam. These characteristics are good for improving the efficiency of oil displacement over low molecular weight surfactant and have widely prospects in EOR.

Key words: high molecular weight surfactant, EOR, foam, stability, profile control
